EuroITV, academic conference on interactive television was held this week in Tampere.
Some key notions very briefly:
- television will be interactive, but the interactivity will take place on ”other screens”, that is on other devices that are used simultaneously
- key user interface challenges on TV screens are in searching on-demand content
- broadband TV will revolutionize media business in the coming years, however spot advertising still accounts for 95% of free-to-air channel revenues and TV sets account for 98,8% of TV content viewing
- addressing youngsters is a major issue for broadcasters, broadband TV and interactivity may provide some help
- crowdfunding alone is not a viable financing model for film productions, however it will add value to marketing
- innovation will not come from broadcasting industry but rather from technology companies
